The Work Begins

The work of reordering has begun!  We have appointed Ellis & Co. as our principal contractors and they have begun work on site.  Initially Craig and Mark (pictured) and the team will focus on protecting the rood screen, the organ and the monuments inside the church and lifting the pews. Because the pews were built in situ, each has to be dismantled and reassembled.  We will be retaining the central set with Harry Hems' carved bench ends and reusing the wood from others.  Shorter pews will be found new homes, including Totnes museum but we need to do a bit of work on them first so they can be free standing.  Photos and weekly updates will appear on this web site for the project.
